Increases in Minimum Wage Rate
On October 1, 2020 there will be increases to the minimum wage rate in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador. Increases to the minimum wage rate have already taken place in British Columbia (increased on June 1, 2020), New Brunswick (increased on April 1, 2020), Nova Scotia (increased on April 1, 2020) and Quebec (increased on May 1, 2020).
Newfoundland and Labrador
The Government of Newfoundland has announced that the minimum wage rate will increase from $11.65 to $12.15 per hour. This will be the second increase in the minimum wage this year. The minimum wage was also increased on April 1, 2020.
The Government of Ontario has announced that hourly minimum wages in Ontario will increase to the following:
- $14.25 for general minimum wage
- $13.40 for students
- $12.45 for liquor servers
- $15.70 for homeworkers
Daily minimum wage rates will also increase for hunting, fishing and wilderness guides:
- $71.30 for working less than 5 consecutive hours in a day; and
- $142.60 for 5 or more hours in a day, whether or not consecutive.
The Government of Saskatchewan has announced that the minimum wage rate in Saskatchewan will increase to $11.45 per hour.
